RETOS lab research accepted for publication

Welcome 2024!

A new research work from the RETOS lab has today been accepted for publication in the International Journal of Molecular Sciences – IJMS.

2024 couldn’t start better for the research and for the RETOS lab team working at Universidad Católica de Valencia (UCV)! The team, coordinated by prof. Javier Sancho Pelluz and prof. Jorge Barcia Gonzalez, has been working in the retina field for many years, investigating MicroRNAs against retinal angiogenesis and retinal extracellular vesicles in diseases causing blindness.

Short description of the research work

The entitled work “Role of exosomal miR-205-5p-cargo in angiogenesis and cell migration (ijms-2813862)” describes how miR-205-5p is included into extracellullar vesicles and it is capable to inhibit angiogenesis under high glucose conditions.

This finding opens a new microrna-based alternative against pathological neovascular eye-related processes found in diabetes and age-related macular degeneration.

Grants supporting the research

In the last years RETOS team has been carring on the research with the support of the national grant from the Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación PID2020-117875GB-10 and Instituto de Salud Carlos III PI21/00083 (Spain). Since last year the lab team has obtained financial support also at European level from the European Commision – Horizon Europe as partner and coordinator of the RETORNA Doctoral Networks project.
