Lab experience
I joined TIGEM – Telethon Institute of Genetics and Medicines for two months, where I focused on learning and analyzing mRNA and miRNA sequencing data. During this time, I acquired various techniques for handling bulk sequencing pipelines for mRNA and miRNA using Linux and R.
I am grateful for my secondment at TIGEM, where I was welcomed by a wonderful team of amazing people and felt integrated from the very beginning. This experience provided me with numerous learning opportunities, particularly during lab meetings and journal clubs.
I would also like to extend my thanks to Karla Ruiz, who provided exceptional bioinformatics lessons. I learned a great deal from her guidance.
Life in Naples
When I arrived in Naples, I was quite surprised, as I imagine most people are. The traffic initially caught me off guard, but after tasting my first pizza, all my worries vanished. The landscapes are stunning, the food is incredible, and I feel very grateful to have had the opportunity to live there for a while. Thanks to Marysia (DC9), I experienced the local culture deeply, and we visited many nearby places, including Vesuvio, Capri, Procida, and Ischia.
This was my first long secondment, and it was a fantastic experience! I had the chance to immerse myself in a new culture, meet new people, and live a completely different life from what I have in Spain. Although being far from home was sometimes challenging, I was fortunate that this wasn’t my first time moving alone.
The only difficulty I faced was the language barrier, as I didn’t speak a word of Italian initially. However, with a mix of French and Spanish, I managed to understand almost everything and even speak a bit.
Now it’s time for me to return to Alicante, Spain, and enjoy my vacation. I’ll be well-rested and ready to continue with this amazing project in September.
Greetings !
