November ended and we are eager to share with you some of the activities organized during the last 30 days as well as other news related to our Consortium.

Activities and news – Radboudumc

🌟 Research Day at Radboudumc’s Ophthalmology Research Radboud UMC
Radboudumc recently hosted an inspiring event showcasing the latest advancements of their research lines, organized by Dr. Franca Hartgers – Research Manager, with special contributions from Professor Carel Hoyng, Dr. Yara Lechanteur, Professor Caroline Klaver and Dr. @Suzanne Yzer.

The event featured a vibrant poster session presented by PhD candidates, along with hands-on demonstrations of stemcells and organoids under the microscope.

Guided tours in small groups allowed attendees to experience live demonstrations of advanced imaging techniques, including OCT, microperimetry, adaptive optics, and the functional mobility lab.

🌟 Dutch Ophthalmology PhD Students Conference
We are excited to share that the Dutch Ophthalmology PhD Students Conference took place on the 1st and 2nd of November in Nijmegen. The conference includes key note lectures, poster presentations and social activities for PhD students in the field of ophthalmology, both clinical and fundamental.

Our DC Yao Yao presented, during the poster session, her groundbreaking research on in vitro models of diabetic retinopathy (DR) and age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Her presentation showcased innovative approaches to understanding these complex diseases and potential therapeutic avenues.

Activities – UCC and Salutem Insights

🌟 Claire at ISPOR Europe 2024 in Barcelona

The ISPOR Europe 2024 conference, themed “Generating Evidence Toward Health and Well-Being,” was held in Barcelona, Spain from the 17th to the 20th of November  2024.

RETORNA participated as well through its DC7 Claire and the associated partner Salutem Insights.

The conference program centered on the importance of scientific evidence in understanding and improving the health and well-being of people across the globe. Sessions focused on the science, practice, and policies of healthcare value assessment and promoted a broader view of health economics and outcomes research (HEOR) that considers the physical, mental, and social health aspects of innovation.

Online training session on Eye physiology

On the 19th of November, the PI and coordinator of the project Dr. Javier Sancho Pelluz met the DCs online for a session on “Eye physiology”.

The concept of retina was analyzed deeply, going through topics such as the morphology of the retina and its layers, cones and rods, photoreceptors, RPE, bipolar and ganglion cells and so much more. Students could admire also some of the drawings made by the researcher Santiago Ramón y Cajal.

The aim of this online training was to share the knowledge and expertise of our PIs, training the DCs to acquire a better understanding of the retina, a need that DCs expressed during the first Summer School held in Valencia.

It is motivating to see the passion for research in each partner, their involvement in communication and dissemination activities as well as their commitment in investing in our young talents’ training!

Greetings,
