Lab experience
I had the incredible opportunity to spend a month at Dr. Sven Schnichels’ lab in Tübingen, where I focused on isolating RPE cells from pig eyes to establish primary cultures. Throughout my stay, I was fortunate to be guided by Agnes Fietz, who shared her expertise with me and helped me develop crucial skills that I will carry forward in my research.
Working alongside Nathalie Smeets (DC3) was another highlight of my time in the lab. We collaborated closely on various tasks, and our shared moments outside the lab added an extra level of enjoyment to my experience. The entire lab team was incredibly welcoming, creating a friendly and supportive atmosphere. Participating in lab discussions was a great way to improve my scientific thinking while learning about the diverse projects everyone was working on.
Life in Germany
Beyond the lab, Tübingen captivated me as a stunning city, with colorful houses and charming streets rich. I also took the opportunity to visit nearby cities, which made me learn more about German culture. While traditional German food wasn’t quite to my taste, I thoroughly enjoyed sampling local beers, adding a delightful twist to my culinary adventures.
More than just a lab experience
Reflecting on this experience, I am truly grateful for the chance to immerse myself in a new academic environment, connect with people from diverse backgrounds, and develop practical laboratory skills. Despite the occasional challenges of being away from home, it was an enriching experience. I look forward to applying the knowledge and skills I’ve gained to enhance my PhD project.
Greetings !
